There’s An App For That!

Barking dogs really don’t bother me. It is there way of saying, “hey, that’s mine” or “want to play,” or “ squirrel” or . . . but for my cats, not so much. Barking terrifies them. So, this week, when there was a swimming event at the pool nearby, and all of the parents of the participants came in what appeared to be separate cars; the cats, Dalai and Carmel, decided to investigate several of the vehicles, up close and personal. I, of course, ran after them, terrified they would become road kill, and found them exploring the undercarriage of a huge black Tundra truck. Calling them was completely futile, offering them treats had no appeal. I tried threats, pleading, nothing was working. They were too involved in exploring the axle and wheel base. Genius struck. I’d download the sound of a barking dog. The theory was they would be terrified, and run home. This might have worked if I had actually downloaded the right bark. I was expecting the loud and menacing “WOOF!!” What I got was the sound of mouse dog, who’s bark was more of a tail wagging squeak or barrrrrkky. The cats just turned and looked at me with a “you’ve got to be joking” shake of their heads. After about a half hour of pleading, trying to poke them with a long stick and moving from the Tundra to a small Chevy car, they came to me, rolled on their backs and said, “okay already, carry us home.” Which I happy did, telling them all the way how worried I had been, and not to every do that again. The new problem was that in downloading the app, I had purchased a $10.99 a month sound track of barking dogs, first month free. So, my problem was how to turn down the free offer that would only cost the $10.99 a month for the rest of my life. Getting rid of the barking was not as hard as I had anticipated. Turns out there is an app for that too.

In part that is what the scripture is about: we struggle with being human and the obstacles of finding happiness and joy in life. Spending more time exploring the undercarriage of life then living in the peace and joy of God’s love. Jesus offers us life, life in abundance. Turns out there is an app for that. Turn out it is free, and for life.

Blessings,
