The Traffic and The Baby Stroller

The Traffic and The Baby Stroller

We didn’t go to the 4th Fireworks this year. Last time we went, the traffic was awful, and it took longer to get home then it did to move lawn chairs, dodge baby stroller, buy a soda, and find a spot with a view. Solution: watch from the back yard. The only problem with that is distance and trees. Of the half hour display that was set off, we saw one burst of color. The noise was spectacular, from the city and neighbors displays, but not much else. After the booming stopped, we resorted to watching fireworks from Washington via WFYI. The only traffic here was from the couch to the kitchen. Yes, it was a beautiful display and the music was amazing, but something was missing. Oh yeah, the traffic and the baby stroller. Who would have thought that the flow of people, kids and laughter was as much a part of the holiday celebration as the flashes of color and noise.

In part, I think that is what the scripture is about. We get so lazy about being comfortable, and not being inconvenienced, that we miss the joy and value of the moment. The Lord knows our weakness and our pride. He does not turn away, but invited us into His plans for joy and love. Oh, and there may be some traffic involved: watch out for the baby strollers and the laughter.

Blessings,
