My kitchen is a mess, beyond the dirty dishes, the wall paper is half done, and the contents of the kitchen drawers are on the dinning room table. In May, I decided to do one little thing to my kitchen: have an upper cabinet for glassware hung. That has moved into: wallpaper, painting, at least one new appliance and of course new tops for the cabinets. When did this little “refresh” project get out of control? I’d say early May. It’s still not completed. Most of which is my own fault. I keeping adding ideas and items to the project, which then requires another worker, and more contracts. And being a control freak, I need to be home when the workmen are in the house. So, what should have been a minor weekend project has turned into 6 months of mess, and thousands of dollars of added costs. It is going to be beautiful, or at least really refreshed, but – this was not my original intent.
I think that in part, this is what the scripture is about. We make plans, and then it seems it all goes a little crazy. God’s plans for the world are not about controlling us, but about blessing us with rain that refreshes the earth and snow that reminds us of the joy and beauty of the world. We are surrounded not by our own craziness, but by the joy and promise of knowing we are in God’s plan for happiness and blessings. A mess on its way to being refreshed.
Blessings,
