The Gift of Blessing and Growth

The Gift of Blessing and Growth

My six-year-old grandson, and the rest of his family too, were at my home for Easter. Knowing the Easter Bunny was scheduled to arrive on Easter morning, he decided to build a bunny trap. His sister had an idea of how to do that, but he saw the flaws in her thinking, and decided to create plan B. Plan B included a cat carrier, bells from Christmas, a paper plate with carrots, lettuce, cabbage, and of course string and a spring. On Sunday morning, he came down stairs and went straight to the bunny trap. It had been sprung; the carrots were mostly eaten but the cabbage was tossed aside. The bunny had left a note: “Hope you have a wonderful Easter, and thank you for the snack.”

I think in part, that is what the scripture is about. God has blessed us with creativity, the ability to think, plan and execute. We are also called to know that failure is part of life. The gift of blessing and growth is ours as we experience failure as an opportunity to gain knowledge, wisdom and claim God’s promises of joy and love. On to plan C: next year more carrots and no cabbage, and definitely a strong spring.

Blessings,
