No Longer A Commodity But A Member Of The Family

No Longer A Commodity But A Member Of The Family

The people who live next door adopted a dog from the animal rescue. She is so cute and sweet – the dog, not the neighbors. They are cute and sweet too, but this is about the doggie. Della, probably having been a “puppy mill momma,” is learning a lot about life outside a cage. She is learning to be valued for herself rather than as a commodity. Della has been “fixed,” had dental work done, got a bath and clipped, and had to learn to be in a house rather than a cage. The biggest adjustment for her has been to learn to trust those who love her, to trust she will not be thrown away again. She is no longer a commodity but a member of the family – who gets treats.

In part that is what the scripture is about: So often in the world, we are treated as commodities, our value determined by the money we make, the things we can buy, rather than who we are. Jesus came into the world to show us God’s love. We no longer are caged by the worlds demands, and valued by “what have you done for me lately,” but by who we are; finding joy and hope in relationships and just being who we are. It can be a steep learning curve to allow ourselves to be love and valued. God has gifts us with being part of the family of God where we can grow in relationship, heal and be loved. AND – WE GET TREATS TOO!!

Blessings,
