Food is one of those things that is pretty much required to live, yet it is so easy to become addicted to it. How can a requirement to live also be an addiction!! That is not fair. For some, it is sugar and chocolate. No, for me it is potatoes and bread – it is tough being Irish. It is like a double-edged sword. If I don’t eat, well the outcome to that is not good. If I eat too much, I have to buy new clothes. So, I’ve decided to to on a diet. But how do I give up the things I really love – potatoes and bread. Are these two not the staff of life? I read the other day that it really doesn’t matter which diet one uses, just stick to the one you chose. After much consideration, I’ve chosen “Eat less – move more.” I hate double edged sword; they get you coming and going.
That is, in part, what the scripture is about. We are called to make good decisions based on wisdom and what is the best for our own lives and those around us – love of self and love of our neighbor. It is a double edged-sword – coming and going we are called to live in wisdom and
love.
