Love Has Many Dimensions

Love Has Many Dimensions

My cats let me live with them. As long as I pay the mortgage, keep kibble in their bowls, the litter fairly clean, sit for an hour or so to pet them and . . . . . they let me live with them. All I ask in return is the opportunity on a couple of morning a week to sleep past 7. But no, each morning at the strike of 7:05 Dalai hops on the bed and meows, I say “Good morning to you too, Dalai, I’m going to sleep just a few more minutes.” At 7:10 he walks on me while he meows, I reach out and pet him as he travels on. At 7:15 he puts his noise in my ear and with great enthusiasm, purrs as loud as he can. By 7:30 or so, I’ve given up the hope of sleep, and simply go to the kitchen: me – coffee, them – cat treats. As he threads around my legs and feet, purring and meowing his plans for the day, I reach down and pet Dalai’s head and say, “I love you too.” He smiles at me.

In part I think that is what the scripture is about. Love has many dimensions and is way too narrowly defined. Beyond feelings, and obligations, love is God’s plan for us. A plan established to give us relationships, purpose, meaning and joy in life. God let’s us live with Him, he only asks that we love each other, and ourselves too!! Purrrrrfect.

Blessings,
