Life and Love in Abundance

Life and Love in Abundance

The saga of Homeless Gray Cat continued this week. Since he has been coming by my porch each morning for the past couple of months, I began to feed him. Yesterday afternoon, as I was strolling about, I saw him sleeping just on the edge of the brambles in some weeds. I step to his nest and he let me pet him. Then I picked him up, and he let me hold him for just a bit. He so wanted to trust me, but that old fear thing kicked in. I put him on the ground, started to pet him again and he scratched me. A “go get the Band-Aids and antibiotic” scratches. I told him “Don’t be afraid, I’m on your side,” but the bleeding may have made him wonder how serious I really was. Later that evening, he came to the porch, and my kittens went nuts. They are afraid that if I love him and bring him in that there won’t be enough for them all: food, room or love.

That in part is what the scripture is about. When the cats or people don’t trust, the response is fear. Fear of loss, fear of being pushed aside, fear of not being loved or holding that special place. The good news is that God is a God of plenty, wanting us to have life and love in abundance. The problems come when fear, disguised as selfness, kicks in. The scratches on my arm will heal. I just hope I don’t run out of Band-Aids and antibiotics in the meantime, oh wait, I don’t need to be afraid, the God of abundance is my side.

Blessings,
