It’s Not About The Cheese Cake

It’s Not About The Cheese Cake

The restaurant is one of my favorites. Lots of fried food, and everything is served with lots of sauces and mayonnaise. And the bread, to die for – and if I ate too much of it that just might be the results. Practicing self-control and moderation seemed like a possibility until I saw the cheese cake. Fries, bread, cheese cake – moderation is only a concept, and I could always skip lunch tomorrow to make up for today’s indulgence. A great concept, but lets face it – about as likely as the cheese cake being low cal. Then, there was the expense; did I really want to drop $30 + tip for all those calories? I argued with myself: I’m on vacation, it’s just this one time, (and the least likely) – I’ll cut back on something else tomorrow. The cheese cake came with strawberries!!!!

I think in part that is what the scripture is about. Having cheese cake is not a sin, but it does belie the human condition. We lie to ourselves about our weakness, allow the desires of the world and short-term gain to overcome truth, wisdom and actual self love. It’s not about the cheese cake, but about each of us living to be the healthy, happy, loved person that God wants us to be. Grace allows us, to each day, grow in wisdom, power and love. Tip included.

Blessings & Happy New Year,
