Finding Peace In Your Nest

Finding Peace In Your Nest

In the airport, waiting to fly home. There was this little bird, a sparrow, I think. His eyes were alert, but he didn’t seem to be afraid. Just flew down from the iron beams to look at the waiting passengers, and pick up a few crumbs. It was pretty obvious that he was trapped in the building. He had probably flown in an open door, and was trapped because of a misguided decision. He looked healthy and wasn’t afraid, just seemed resigned to his dilemma. I watched him hop/walk around the terminal area for a few minutes. If he knew how to get out, or someone could help him, I know it would be a moment of happiness. It was not in my power or capabilities to lift him out of his dilemma and into freedom. All I could do was drop a few extra crumbs from my sandwich. In a few minutes, he flew back to his nest in the iron beams; and I boarded the plain to fly home.

I think this in part is what the scripture is about. People get trapped in life: illness, bad decisions, life situations, other people actions etc. . . . The point is this, sometimes there are no good options to move out. The doors are closed, the widows don’t open, we are where we are. We are called to be loving and loved in those moments. God calls us not to criticize, but to drop crumbs, look for an open door, and most of all to let the other know we recognize and love them even in their dilemma. God wants us to find peace and moments of joy even as we deal with the realities of life choices. There is more than one way to fly, and more than one place to find peace in your nest. God loves you.

Blessings,
