Benign Negligence With Crazy Expectations

Benign Negligence With Crazy Expectations

The bag of bird seed that I made a special trip to the store to purchase, is still laying in the yard, unopened. It appears some enterprising squirrel may have scratched it open, but he didn’t bother to get any into the bird feeders. That’s not really the squirrels responsibly, and of course he doesn’t have arms or thumbs; but since he is benefiting from my benign negligence….; it seems the least he could do is try.

I think in part, that is what the scripture is about. We tend to act with benign negligence, with crazy expectations of those who may have benefited by accident. Then we experience God, and get a little confused. God deliberately sent His Son, Jesus the Christ, to show us true love. He sent Jesus into the world not because God had to, but because he values us! God wants us to live in joy and love, a gift from God’s hand. And we don’t even have to tear open the bag.

Blessings and Happy Lent,
